Assumption Greek Orthodox Church

Letter from the Parish Council
Dear Friends,

Christ Is Risen!  Christos Anesti!

On behalf of the Parish Council, I extend thanks to all of our members for outstanding attendance and service during Holy Week.  It was so wonderful to see the altar overflowing with acolytes!  This clear evidence that indeed our youth are interested and active is a blessing indeed.  Please, as we move forward, continue to accept every opportunity God puts before us to serve, participate, learn and grow.  To each and every member, young and old, everything you offer, everything you do, every time you attend and share yourself – it enriches and blesses all as we come together to build the Body of Christ.

This summer God brings to us two more candidates for a permanent Priest.  Our parish will have the opportunity to receive visits from Father George Khitiri of Bethesda, Maryland and from Father John Beal, of Oakland, California.  Each is a very fine priest and teacher with sincere interest in serving Assumption.  Please, as events and services are scheduled in welcome, participate and serve that we may put our best foot forward.  God willing, we will have a permanent priest assigned by the fall.

I ask each of you to be reminded that although services have slowed down, the Church continues to operate.  When there is a need, we are absolutely able to provide the services of a priest, access to the Church, community prayer, or simply fellowship or assistance if we are made aware of a need.  Please contact me or a member of the council and as it has always been, His Church is here for you.

In the same vein, a break from regular services should not be an excuse to take a “break” from stewardship.  Just as prayer and fasting are spiritual commitments to further our salvation, stewardship is a personal commitment to God.  It is important as we prepare to welcome a full time priest that we support His Church and fortify ourselves through robust stewardship.

Finally, congratulations to all of the youth noted this month in the bulletin.  God bless and strengthen each of them as they serve and grow in His vineyard!  What a blessed future they represent for His Church in Pocatello.
